 Tips for growing Fresh lemongrass

1. Introduction

Lemongrass had a scientific named Cymbopogon citratus, sometime call citronella, sweet rush and in Khmer called Doeum Sleuk Krai is a kind of plant which belong to Graminae in the family of Poaceae. It is a perennial grass and also a herb with a lemon scent. The culinary herb is produced from the stalk of the lemongrass. It's commonly used in Southeast Asia.

2. Materials and Methods

-Land preparation: plowing your free land and harrowing the soil with removed grass. let it under sun for 7 days to 10 days to allow the sunlight kill some bacteria on the soil surface. after that make the rows, the size of the row are 80 cm for width and 15 meters for length or you can make it more than this based on your land size. but you have to make sure that the rows is stretching out of the north-south direction.

-Materials: lemongrass variety, hand shovel, cattle manure, chemical fertilizers, harrower, and watering can or drip irrigation tools.

-Method: after finished the land preparation, you have to apply some cattle manure on the row with 1Kg/m2 and some chemical fertilizer for basal application. dig the hole with 15-20 mm per hole and then plant the lemongrass. the planting row are 20x20 cm. normally, we are planting the lemongrass the evening and then the morning of the second day, we are starting to irrigated it.

- Maintenance: 3 days after planting, the lemongrass's root is growing into the soil and start growing the rooting system and more leaves. remove grass or weed from your plant , irrigated the plant for twice per day, spraying some herbicide to control the insect or pests.

-Harvesting: 45 days to 55 days after planting , you can harvest the lemongrass, we have to observed the which lemongrass's tillers has more than 10-15 stalks.

Lemon is a magical herb that is very important for cooking as food and beverages, and also extract its culinary herb to make lemongrass's tea. some manufacturers are produced as fragrance, soaps and cosmetics products.
